What are error codes in the coffee machine?

The error system is a solution used in many devices, including Saeco automatic coffee machines. Sometimes, while using the device, an error code appears on the Saeco coffee machine display. The error message in the Saeco coffee machine is a signal to the user that the device is not functioning properly. To facilitate diagnosing the location of the fault and/or the cause of the malfunction, these errors are numbered. The most common error codes in Saeco coffee machines are: 01, 03, 04, 05, 11, 14, 19. Therefore, if you own a device from this manufacturer, it is worth knowing what each code means and what to do when an error message appears on the Saeco device display.

Error codes in Saeco coffee machines - list

The table presented below lists the error codes that may appear in the Saeco device and require immediate intervention. The good news is that in most cases, it is possible to fix the fault in the coffee machine on your own.

Error code 01. Malfunction of the coffee grinder

Error code 01 in the Saeco coffee machine indicates a malfunction of the coffee grinder, and the cause of the problem may be a blocked coffee funnel (which has been clogged by ground coffee). Unblocking the funnel in the coffee machine is not a complicated or time-consuming task and should effectively resolve the issue with error code 01 in the Saeco coffee machine. Just follow the steps described below:

  1. Turn off the coffee machine and wait a moment until the device completely stops working, that is, until it stops making any sounds. The complete shutdown of the Saeco coffee machine should take about 15-20 seconds.
  2. Remove the brew group located behind the service door.
  3. Open the lid of the coffee funnel and insert the spoon handle into the funnel. If there is no ground coffee in the funnel, insert the spoon handle into the funnel from the bottom.
  4. Move the spoon handle up and down until the ground coffee blocking the funnel comes out.
  5. Then, using a vacuum cleaner, clean the funnel of any coffee residues.
  6. Place the brew group back in its place, turn on the coffee machine, and prepare an espresso.
  7. After brewing the coffee, check the funnel. If you notice ground coffee in it, repeat the entire funnel unblocking process.

Error code 03. Dirty brew group

The error code 03 indicates that there is a problem with the brew group in the Saeco coffee machine. Most likely, the brew group has become dirty to the extent that it cannot function properly. To resolve the issue and eliminate error code 03, the brew group must be cleaned and rinsed under running water. To properly clean the brew group in the Saeco coffee machine, you should:

  1. Turn off the device and wait a moment until the coffee machine completely stops working, that is, until it stops making any sounds. The complete shutdown of the Saeco coffee machine should take about 15-20 seconds.
  2. Open the service door and remove the brew group: press the "PUSH" button and pull the brew group out by the handle towards you.
  3. Rinse the brew group thoroughly under lukewarm running water, and then set it aside to dry completely (do NOT insert the brew group back into the machine until it is dry). It is not recommended to dry the brew group with a cloth, as it may leave fibers that could damage the device.
  4. The clean and dry brew group should be placed back in its place.

Error code 04. Incorrectly inserted brew group

Error 04 in the Saeco coffee machine indicates an incorrectly installed brew group (misalignment of the brew group). In this case, reopen the service door of the coffee machine and push the brew group back into place. A characteristic click will indicate that the element is in the correct position.

Error code 05. Air in the water circuit of the Saeco coffee machine

Error message 05 in the Saeco coffee machine signals that there is air in the water circuit. To effectively remove air from the Saeco coffee machine, you should:

  1. Wyłączyć ekspres do kawy
  2. Opróżnić zbiornik z wodą oraz usunąć filtr (jeśli jest zamontowany)
  3. Ponownie napełnić zbiornik wodą i umieścić go z powrotem w ekspresie do kawy
  4. Włączyć ekspres. Gdy urządzenie się nagrzeje i będzie gotowe do pracy, należy wybrać z menu dozowanie gorącej wody i napełnić nią 2-3 filiżanki.

Error code 11 and error code 19: The coffee machine must adjust to room temperature

Error codes 11 and 19 are most often encountered when the coffee machine has been transported during low outdoor temperatures (in winter when the temperature drops below 0 degrees). The device then needs to adjust to room temperature. In this case, turn off the coffee machine and wait about 30 minutes. Then turn the device back on.

Error code 14: Overheating of the coffee machine

Error 14 in the Saeco coffee machine indicates that the device has overheated. To resolve the issue with the overheated coffee machine, turn off the device and wait for it to cool down. After about 30 minutes, the coffee machine should be ready to work.

Error codes in Saeco coffee machines that require service

If the above actions did not yield the desired effect and the Saeco coffee machine still reports an error or if a message with a code other than those described above appears on the display, professional service assistance will be necessary. If you want your coffee machine to be repaired by an authorized Saeco service, we encourage you to use the services of APS Service.
