Messages and error codes in Philips espresso machines
Certainly, the moment when your Philips coffee machine displays an error code is not exciting. And that's understandable. An error message is a clear signal that the device is not functioning properly. What to do in such a situation and how to solve the problem? Which notifications should prompt us to contact an authorized Philips service, and which error codes can we handle ourselves?
What does the error code mean in a Philips coffee machine?
In the case of Philips coffee machines, we are dealing with a well-developed and clear code system that allows for both communicating a malfunction and helps in identifying the cause of the fault, as well as providing guidance on how to resolve the issue with the coffee machine. The most common error codes in Philips coffee machines are: 1, 3, 4, 5, 11, 14, 19. These codes indicate that the device is not functioning correctly and immediate intervention is necessary. You will find information on what to do if one of the above codes appears below.
Philips coffee machine error 1. Coffee grinder error
Error code 1 in a Philips coffee machine means that the coffee grinder is malfunctioning, and the problem may be caused by a blocked coffee funnel (which has been clogged by ground coffee). To effectively resolve the issue with the clogged funnel in the Philips coffee machine, follow these steps:
- Turn off the device and wait until the coffee machine stops working, that is, until it stops making any sounds. The complete shutdown of the Philips coffee machine should take about 15-20 seconds.
- Remove the brewing unit, which you will find behind the service door.
- Open the lid of the ground coffee funnel and insert the spoon holder into the funnel. If there is no ground coffee in the funnel, insert the spoon holder into the funnel from the bottom.
- Move the spoon holder up and down until the ground coffee that is clogging the funnel falls out.
- Using a vacuum cleaner, clean the funnel of any remaining ground coffee. To do this effectively, hold the vacuum nozzle at the exit of the coffee funnel and cover the funnel with your hand (or vice versa: place the vacuum cleaner on top and cover the bottom of the coffee funnel).
- Place the brewing unit back in its place, then turn on the coffee machine and prepare an espresso.
- After brewing coffee, check the funnel. If you notice ground coffee in it, repeat the entire funnel unblocking process again.
Philips coffee machine error 3. Brewing unit error
The message indicating error 3 on the display means that there is a problem with the brewing unit in the Philips coffee machine. The most common cause of this error is a dirty brewing unit, which prevents it from functioning properly. To resolve the issue and eliminate error code 3 in the Philips coffee machine, you need to clean and rinse the brewing unit under running water. To properly clean the brewing unit, you should:
- Turn off the device and wait until it stops working (you won't hear any sounds from it). The complete shutdown of the Philips coffee machine should take about 15-20 seconds.
- Open the service door and remove the brewing unit.
- Thoroughly rinse the brewing unit under lukewarm running water, then set it aside to dry completely.
- Place the clean and dry unit back in its place.
Philips coffee machine error 4. Brewing unit not properly placed
Error code 4 in a Philips coffee machine means that the brewing unit is incorrectly installed. In this situation, you need to open the service door and push the unit into place. When you hear a characteristic click, it will indicate that the brewing unit is in the correct position.
Philips coffee machine error 5. Air in the water circuit
The message with error 5 indicates that there is trapped air in the water circuit. To remove the air in the Philips coffee machine, you should:
- Wyłączyć ekspres do kawy.
- Empty the water tank and remove the filter (if one is installed).
- Refill the water tank and place it back in the device.
- Turn the coffee machine back on. When the device heats up and is ready to work, select hot water dispensing from the menu and fill 2-3 cups.
Philips coffee machine error 14. The machine is overheated
Error code 14 indicates that the device is overheated. In this case, to resolve the issue, turn off the coffee machine and wait about 30 minutes until the device cools down.
Error code 11 and error code 19: The device must adjust to room temperature
The appearance of error 11 or 19 on the display means that the device must adjust to room temperature after transport (brought in from outside). Such situations most often occur in winter when the outside temperature is close to zero. To resolve the issue, simply turn off the coffee machine and wait about 30 minutes before restarting.
When to reset the Philips coffee machine
If you notice that the device is operating slower, responding with a delay, freezing, not brewing coffee, or not frothing milk properly, it is worth resetting the coffee machine. Remember that the automatic coffee machine has quite a bit of electronics, which, like any other equipment, can simply freeze during operation. Resetting the machine is a simple action that can immediately resolve some issues, so it's always worth trying.
At the same time, it should be noted that resetting the machine will not solve mechanical problems, such as clogged pipes, a damaged brewing unit, or worn seals. In such cases, maintenance or repair of the coffee machine at a service center may be necessary.
How to reset the Philips coffee machine
This is not a complicated task; simply disconnect the Philips coffee machine from the power supply, wait a moment (let's say 60 seconds), and reconnect the device to the network. Before restarting the coffee machine, it is advisable to perform a few additional tasks such as emptying the grounds container and pouring out the water from the drip tray or cleaning the brewing unit.
